DE LUNOLOGIO • ABOUT THE ATLAS

A Living Computational Atlas of the Earth–Moon System

Lunologium is an independent computational atlas exploring the Moon as astronomical object, temporal system, cultural symbol, physical landscape, and recurring influence on human systems. It combines deterministic astronomical computation, authoritative public data, historical traditions, peer-reviewed research, quantitative experiments, and practical tools within a single navigable system.

✦RATIO • THE PREMISE

One Moon. Multiple Ways of Knowing.

Human beings have encountered the Moon through many distinct systems across millennia: direct physical observation, celestial mechanics, calendrical timekeeping, agricultural cycles, oceanic navigation, mythology, contemplative ritual, chronobiology, econometric backtests, astrology, and art.

Most modern software forces a false choice: either reduce the Moon to sterile orbital ephemerides stripped of human meaning, or collapse it into uncritical horoscope claims detached from physical reality.

Lunologium takes a deliberate architectural alternative: preserve every major way humanity understands the Moon without collapsing their epistemic claims into a single flattened truth. Calculated celestial mechanics remain physically rigorous. Historical traditions remain culturally grounded. Contemplative practices remain personal and optional.

✦EPISTEMOLOGIA • HOW KNOWLEDGE IS CLASSIFIED

Observed. Tradition. Practice.

Every data point, interface element, and textual annotation across Lunologium is classified under a transparent tripartite epistemic architecture. This partitioning ensures that empirical physics is never conflated with folklore, and cultural heritage is never dismissed as superstition.

“Lunologium does not require every way of understanding the Moon to make the same kind of claim.”

✦AUCTOR • ORIGIN & CREATOR

From Printed Almanac to Living System

Lunologium began as an original printed lunar calendar created by Evelyna Bellamy. Print could capture an individual astronomical cycle with tactile elegance, but it was necessarily static and bound to a single year.

The digital project emerged from a central question: What would this become if the calendar itself could calculate, update, cross-reference, remember, visualize, and grow? That inquiry transformed a paper publication into the computational atlas that exists today.

Evelyna Bellamy investigates the architecture of material memory, engineering zero-dependency computational substrates, diurnal solar synchronization, and diegetic design systems that resist digital ephemerality. Her work bridges formal software engineering with empirical research into predictive systems, cognitive interaction ergonomics, and human-centered communication.

✦PRINCIPIA • PROJECT PHILOSOPHY

Principles of the Observatory

Five governing design axioms guide every interface decision, algorithm integration, and curatorial choice in the atlas.

I

Distinguish Before Combining

Scientific observation, historical tradition, symbolic interpretation, and personal practice must remain legible as distinct kinds of knowledge. Never disguise tradition as empirical physics, and never discard cultural history as worthless noise.

II

Show the Source

Every celestial coordinate, physical formula, historical attribution, and statistical backtest should make its provenance inspectable. Transparent methodology is the prerequisite for intellectual trust.

III

Compute What Can Be Computed

Prefer deterministic mathematical calculation and structured data over vague AI-generated prose. If an ephemeris coordinate or orbital resonance can be derived from celestial mechanics, compute it client-side.

IV

Preserve Wonder Without Manufacturing Certainty

The Moon has captivated human imagination for millennia. We can celebrate that symbolic fascination and psychological resonance without converting loose statistical correlations into false causal certainty.

V

Build for Curiosity, Not Extraction

No attention traps, no dark patterns, no invasive surveillance, and no commercial ad machinery. Software should respect the quiet contemplation of the night sky.

✦MACHINA • OPEN COMPUTATIONAL SYSTEM

Built to Be Inspected

Lunologium is engineered as an open, inspectable computational instrument. It prioritizes local execution over remote cloud dependencies and structured machine protocols over closed silos.

✦SECURITAS • PRIVACY

An Observatory Without Surveillance

Lunologium collects no personal data. There are no user accounts, no tracking cookies, no third-party analytics scripts, and no advertising networks.

All personal reflections, somatic check-ins, natal moon configurations, and ritual bookmarks are stored exclusively in your browser's local storage. Your data never leaves your device. If you clear your browser cache, that information is permanently erased.

“We believe an observatory should respect your attention the way the Moon respects the dark.”
